Amelia Pridemore is a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in FIU’s Department of Public Policy & Administration, and she will graduate in Fall 2018. Her main research areas are citizen participation, entertainment and arts policy, and qualitative research methods. Her dissertation, “Outlaw Citizenship in Artistic Cites: Local Artistic Communities and Citizen Participation”, focuses on urban artistic communities' (musicians, visual artists, performance artists, writers…) participation in local government. The dissertation, with its fieldwork in Austin and New Orleans, has the broader impact of examining disaffected citizens’ participation, particularly when they utilize non-traditional methods. Before her arrival at FIU, Amelia earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a Master of Arts in Political Science at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, and worked as a journalist for ten years.
