Biography

Shaoming Cheng is a Professor and Department Chair for the Department of Public Policy and Administration at Florida International University. He received his Ph.D. in Public Policy from George Mason University. His research interests center on entrepreneurship and small business development policy, spatial econometric modeling, firm location decisions responding to various policy incentives and locational conditions, and regional economic health, performance, and development. He has been engaged in a wide variety of funded research projects with support from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Economic Development Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Kauffman Foundation, and the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy. He has published a monograph book and dozens of peer-reviewed articles. He was winner of the Morris and Anita Broad Research Fellowship Award (2012), Best APPAM Dissertation in Public Policy and Management in Asia (2006), William H. Miernyk Research Excellence Medal (2006), Charles M. Tiebout Prize in Regional Science (2005), and Doctoral Research Fellowship of the Economic Club of Washington, D.C. (2004). He is an active member of ASPA, NASPAA, and RSAI.
